Four generations of God's faithfulness !

August Meyer, Barbel’s Grandfather, joined the Liebenzeller Mission of Germany in 1918.

After training at their mission’s School he was commissioned to China in 1921. During this time missionaries would sail on steam ships or travel by the Trans-Siberian Railway.
These missionaries were of a different caliber. One term on the field lasted ten years.
Communication was restricted to snail mail. No internet, no Skype, no satellite telephones …
In 1942, due to World War II, they had to return to Germany. Barbel’s grandfather continued to serve as a pastor at different places in Germany and was a member of the Liebenzell Mission executive for some time.

Hans Meyer, Barbel’s father was conceived and born in China. At eight years old he had to go to a missionary children’s home in Germany.

For many years he and his brother were separated from their parents. All these difficult experiences did not stop him from joining the Seminary of the Liebenzell Mission in 1948. He was commissioned as a missionary to Japan in 1954.
Barbel was born in Japan. Together with three siblings she grew up in the country known as the land of the rising sun. From 1976 – 1982 Hans Meyer worked at the Liebenzell Mission headquarters in Germany as a house father for the male students at the seminary.
From 1982 – 1984 the Meyers went back to Japan.

Barbel studied at the Liebenzell Bible College from 1981-1985 with the vision of missionary work in Tanzania, Africa.

In 1985 she was commissioned to Zambia, having gotten engaged to Michael Pflaum a missionary candidate to Zambia, Africa. From 1979 -1984 Michael had studied at the Seminary of the Liebenzell Mission.

On the 13th of March 1986 the newlywed (07.01.1986) couple boarded a plane to fly to the Republic of Zambia in Sub-Saharan Africa. Andrea, Christine, Martin and Gabi grew up in Africa. After graduating from Secondary schools in Kenya andZambia they each went on to the US in order to attend University.
